From Venice to Istanbul: Francesco’s Mediterranean Voyage

Francesco’s Mediterranean Voyage: A Cultural Journey Through the Mediterranean from Venice to Istanbul

Posted by Viola Woolcott

Francesco da Mosto, a Venetian architect and historian sets out from Venice to cross the Mediterranean. He follows in the wake of his ancestor, the explorer Alvise da Mosto discovering the cities and islands where Western civilization was born.

Francesco sails in a late nineteenth-century yawl with his journey starting in Venice and finishing in Istanbul. Along his journey, he takes in impressive, spectacular ruins, such as the Acropolis in Athens, the Lycian Tombs in Turkey and sacred sites like the monasteries of Mount Athos and the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul; and beautiful Dubrovnik, which was destroyed and rebuilt in the last decade.

As Francesco visits these wonderful ancient sites, ancient history and bygone legends intertwine, which brings the past vividly back to life.

When you read the book, it takes you on a thrilling cultural odyssey. The book is beautifully illustrated throughout and is a must if you are one of Francesco fans.
